Great Buddhist Thinkers from Bihar

Buddhaghosha (बुद्धघोष)

Buddhaghosha, the great commentator on Buddhist Pali cannon was the grandeur of Bihar. He was born in 5th century A.D. at Ghoshgrama near Urubilva, the modern Bodh Gaya. His father’s name was Keshi. At first he studied Vedic text in Sanskrit traditionally and then turned towards Buddhist literature..  He shows that the Indian Pali tradition of the commentary on Buddhist scriptures was doomed in India but it was in practice and running on in Shimhali tradition at Lanka. So He went to Lanka and stayed there at Anuradhapur Convent and researched on the legends, history and other stories concerned with the original Buddhist Tripitak in Pali cannon. Thus he gives the details of this place and at many places he describes the etymology of the name of that place. Buddhaghoshas that description is interesting to find out some more places related to Buddhism. He also mentions the person or persons to whom the gatha was addressed as also the event which led to the uttering of the gatha or to the preaching of a sutta.
